THOUGHTS FROM WORK

Pixels and Picas and Points: Oh My!
This example comes from the experience of working with several different design agencies who all claimed to understand Accessibility (and swore on everything precious to them that they understood WCAG 2.0 guideline) only to find that the designs that they delivered did not meet our standards.

We have identified over 200 check points that we created out of the WCAG 2.0 AA standard. I am writing here about just type size. Specifically, this is about:

1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum): The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, except for the following: (Level AA)

And I am offering an observation about one reason why agencies (and individuals) get this wrong.
Thoughts on Improving Design Reviews (Part 1)
I was talking to some design leaders the other day and we happened on the topic of design reviews. They're necessary. But sometimes they're really terrible.

Sometimes people just complain about photo choices or colors. Sometimes they quibble about the content and start to edit copy during the design review.

How can we make design reviews better? How can we train our stakeholders to have the discussions about design strategy, interaction model, and workflow that we are trying to have?

I put together some thoughts with some recommendations ... I separated this into Part 1 and Part 2.
